Also, it can test specimens directly and at a fine scale, which unlocks the testing of small or irregularly shaped pieces and enables the extraction of more data, delivering deeper insights into material behaviour. For example, 160 PIP tests can be fitted onto a standard ASTM E8 tensile coupon, unlocking information about material homogeneity that would be obscured by the single stress-strain curve obtained when tensile testing this part. Through PIP, Airbus will therefore not only accelerate testing workflows but also enable the generation of richer data, supporting innovation and advancing the highest levels of safety in aerospace engineering.
\n
Dr. Jimmy Campbell, CTO at Plastometrex, had this to add about the collaboration:
\n
\n
\"We are thrilled to collaborate with Airbus on standardising PIP. This partnership highlights the transformative potential of our technology, enabling faster, more versatile, and data-rich testing. Together, we're setting a new standard in mechanical testing that aligns with the rigorous demands of the aerospace industry.\"
\n
\n
This collaboration between Airbus and Plastometrex marks a significant advancement in mechanical testing, offering a streamlined, cost-effective, and data-rich complement to traditional methods. As both companies work together, this new approach promises to improve testing efficiency and deliver more detailed insights into material behaviour, benefiting aerospace projects worldwide.
\n
Find out more about mechanical testing with PIP: Click Here
","frontmatter":{"date":"18 September 2024","title":"Airbus and Plastometrex Collaborate on Standardisation of Novel Mechanical Test","image":{"childImageSharp":{"gatsbyImageData":{"layout":"constrained","backgroundColor":"#182838","images":{"fallback":{"src":"/static/aed3039498e65cf4c21aceed248a1562/70b5d/airbus-pr-alt-2x.png","srcSet":"/static/aed3039498e65cf4c21aceed248a1562/c9352/airbus-pr-alt-2x.png 98w,\n/static/aed3039498e65cf4c21aceed248a1562/1f414/airbus-pr-alt-2x.png 195w,\n/static/aed3039498e65cf4c21aceed248a1562/70b5d/airbus-pr-alt-2x.png 390w,\n/static/aed3039498e65cf4c21aceed248a1562/12169/airbus-pr-alt-2x.png 780w","sizes":"(min-width: 390px) 390px, 100vw"},"sources":[{"srcSet":"/static/aed3039498e65cf4c21aceed248a1562/f1ce5/airbus-pr-alt-2x.webp 98w,\n/static/aed3039498e65cf4c21aceed248a1562/fd1d9/airbus-pr-alt-2x.webp 195w,\n/static/aed3039498e65cf4c21aceed248a1562/e5835/airbus-pr-alt-2x.webp 390w,\n/static/aed3039498e65cf4c21aceed248a1562/2bb5f/airbus-pr-alt-2x.webp 780w","type":"image/webp","sizes":"(min-width: 390px) 390px, 100vw"}]},"width":390,"height":390}}}}}},"pageContext":{"slug":"/newsroom/airbus-and-plastometrex-collaborate-on-standardisation-of-novel-mechanical-test/"}},
